CHanGE (Campaign for sexual Health and Gender Equality) is an UCOS project on gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Together with our students, we strengthen public support within Flanders for the global struggle for gender equality and access to SRHR. Through this project, we contribute to a powerful international movement.
Each new academic year, a group of young and motivated CHanGE students from Belgium meets grassroot organisations and activists abroad. The participants actively engage in the activities of these organisations, take interviews and gain knowledge on how these organisations tackle local problems and create a sense of community.
Back in Belgium, these insights are used to build a campaign, each year based with a different theme. The students share their experiences about foreign activists with the Flemish public and question mainstream Belgian narratives. By placing the activities and stories of the organisations in the spotlights, we question the status quo and shine a light on how change happens around the world.
In 2022, the students focus on the impact of climate change on gender equality and sexual health. They travel to Mozambique, India and Egypt to discover how these global issues intersect and how change is happening right now!
